By Top Rated Services Of Bermuda Published: 01/21/2010
One thing you should consider is learning how to cook fruits and vegetables. This is essential if you want to accomplish the Five a Day rule.
First let's talk about microwaves, which just about everyone uses today. This gadget can make cooking with vegetables easy. A microwave proof bowl can mean you can easily steam vegetables with just a little bit of water. This means they can retain all their important nutrients as well.
You can also use the microwave to quickly bake potatoes and this way they retain their natural moisture so you won't need to drown them in butter and sour cream. Steamed broccoli would make a great topping, eating that with baked potatoes already gives you two serving of the Five a Day goal!
You can also use a grill to make vegetables and meet your Five a Day goal. Consider some veggie kebobs that comes with peppers and pineapples. You can even eat lean cuts of beef or chicken with meals or alone. Doing this your family will be satisfied with the meals. Remember to cook them over medium hot coals so they don't burn but cook through.
Use a blender to produce fruit smoothies with fresh fruit. Try various fruits, add some crushed ice and fruti juice.
Making a fruit salad would be simple and you can add some of your favorite fruits. This might include apples, bananas, strawberries, and whatever else you like. Usually you can make a salad like this in under five minutes!
Did you know you can also grill fruit skewers as well as vegetable kebobs? Try stacking things like chunks of melon, strawberries, grapes, and pineapple. Try a dip made of nonfat plain or reduced fat vanilla yogurt to enhance the flavor.
You can also make homemade healthy salsa to help you meet the Five a Day guideline. Try following a recipe you find online or just blend together tomatoes, onions, avocados, cilantro, and a dash of lime. Keep working with your blend until you get it to taste.
Recall making your own popsicles when you were a kid? You can get your fruits and vegetables by making some now as well. The 100% fruit juices can be used to pour in the popsicle molds. This can also be something the kids would love as well! Teaching kids these healthy habits is essential because children tend to carry on these healthy habits for a lifetime.
If you are creative about it you could come up with many different ways to keep up with the Five a Day rule. Such as adding, small pieces of broccoli, carrot slices, and a variety of peppers to go with any pasta salad.
Making a boring green salad fun to eat is easy, by adding various fruits and veggies. Try spinach, tangerine chunks, grapes, diced carrots, apple chunks, raisins, bits of pineapple, and whatever else suits your fancy. Then your salad will seem very approachable to you and it will be full of many different nutrients. And they make it easier to reach that Five a Day goal.
You can be more creative and make you own salad dressings using flavored vinegars and fruit juices. Thwo some home-grown herbs in there. When eating a salad it is essential to use the right dressing, because salads are one of the most essential foods to the Five a Day rule.
And remember to dress up your everyday food items with fruits and vegetables as well. Add peppers to your frozen pizza, vegetable chunks to shish kebobs, and fruits to your cereals or even pancakes in the morning.
